ROTORUA – OPOTIKI (15-17/01/09)

Wpisał Bobuszka, data Luty 1st, 2009

On to Rotorua’s most active geothermal reserve at Hells Gate – so named by George Bernard Shaw when he visited the area in the early 1900s.

Lots of hot pools, for example, Devil’s Cauldron, Sulphur Bath (very smelly), the Infernal Pools, Sodom and Gomora, again – all named by GBS.

At the stage the road roughly followed the railway line – see photo of Mount Edgecumbe.

At last we found time and opportunity to give our bikes a good clean as they were starting to rust – probably as a result of exposure to salt water on the two sea crossings.

Lots more Maori culture
